MAN FROM PLAINS

2007

Jonathan Demme follows former United States President Jimmy Carter in a tour promoting his book on the Palestinian situation, whose title defines as apartheid the condition in which Palestinians are held inside their territories. What emerges is the portrait of an elderly but extremely active man, determined in his commitment to human rights. Carter is aware of, without fearing, the reactions that acritical proIsraelis will have towards him but does not forgo the tour, during which we hear him remind Palestinians of their responsibilities in regard to terrorism and Israelis of theirs concerning the suppression of many rights.
