SINDBAD

This is an adaptation of the Arabian Nights, the classic of oriental literature that has taken the fancy of children and adults alike, the world over: just think of characters like Sherazade, Ali Baba, Aladdin and Sindbad.
Sindbad’s travels take us into the magical world of oriental palaces, sultans and flying carpets but also monsters and giants. The hero faces each adventure with courage and cleverness and the journey becomes a metaphor for the experiences a child must have in order to grow and discover a world, not always friendly, filled with pitfalls to overcome with courage and intelligence.

The first voyage

Sindbad leaves on a ship which encounters a whale and sinks. All the sailors drown but Sindbad is saved by a big fish he once had helped who now offers him a precious necklace.

The second voyage

Pursued by the sultan’s soldiers, Sindbad comes to an island where he finds a huge egg being sat on by a gigantic bird. The courageous boy flees and finds himself deep in a forest, threatened by a ferocious tiger.

In the land of the giants

Sindbad sails off again with two friends on a leaky ship. A terrible storm comes and they are taken prisoner by a horrible giant who wants to eat them.

The flying carpet

Flying on a magic carpet, Sindbad comes to an unknown country where the sultan’s daughter has a strange sickness: every night she changes into a dove and flies to her lover, a young fisherman.

The sultan of the sea

The sultan of the sea wants to kidnap Sindbad to make him play the lute.
From the bottom of the sea, where he was held prisoner, the courageous youth manages to escape and comes to an island overrun by monkeys who tease him and put him into prison.
