CAPITAINE AU LONG COURS

1996

Film presented by BIANCA CONTI ROSSINI

Georges is writing a series of novels whose protagonist is a sea captain perennially searching for Jeanne, who may be the sea captain’s woman, or Georges’ dead wife or even a ghost. After nine volumes of fruitless searching, the captain, tired of his odyssey across the oceans, comes to shore in Georges’ universe, accompanied by original characters met within his fictional encounters. Here he discovers that his creator has a very fertile imagination but lives a very boring life. To change this situation, the captain decides to intervene. Love, desire, fantasy and oddness stir this film and make its characters dream.
«Even before I started inventing stories for films, as a child a part of me lived in an imaginary world. As an adolescent I devoured serial comic strips (Tex, Intrepido, Corto Maltese…). Later on I met a man who played the saxophone up against a wall, whose dream was to retire from the world and translate his favorite novels. One day I read that the author of Tex had never set foot in America, much less the Far West. Capitaine au long cours, my first feature film, was born much later, perhaps, among other things, from the unconscious convergence of all these elements». (Bianca Conti Rossini).
