Greg Heffley is a thin boy and not very tall. Greg is about to attend middle school, where he will find a world that’s totally new and not so easy to deal with. Greg lives with his parents, an older brother who teases him and a younger one who admires him. Greg faces the new school together with Rowley, an elementary school companion. Rowley is not only overweight but also decidedly childish. The two are immediately placed on the low rungs of the hierarchy that is automatically created. Greg would like to rank higher but with his friend always sticking to him it seems impossible.
