FALSE PARTENZE

2002

Well-remembered Cochi and Renato used to sing “There’s always someone leaving, but where does he arrive if he goes? Ciao!” And in these short “scholastic works” there’s always someone leaving, even if only to come right back to see what “effect” it makes, or who tries to go but can’t, blocked by remorse or guilt. Ten little ideal continuations, nearly thirty years after, of Le retour d’Afrique, Alain Tanner’s masterpiece that remains one of the best metaphors for Swiss “malaise”. Ten exercises in style shot with ironclad production rules but meritworthy in never being repetitious, even though all the authors are in the same class at their school.
