Yacine is the veterinary at the zoo in Qalquilya, on Jordan’s West Bank. The town lies near the wall dividing the so-called Palestinian West Bank from Israel. Ziad, Yacine’s son, is extremely fond of the zoo’s two giraffes, Rita and Brownie: he spends entire days with them, cares for and feeds them. One night, during an air raid, Brownie is hit and killed. Rita begins to pine away, refusing food. Yacine must absolutely find a new companion for Rita and the only way to get another giraffe is to steal it from an Israeli zoo. So Yacine, together with Ziad and Laura – a French journalist with a crush on the vet – undertake a dangerous journey beyond the wall. They manage to reach their destination and load the male giraffe on a trailer. Now, however, their return trip begins and it won’t be easy to hide a giraffe.
