Ingeborg Bachmann was the poet who conquered the hitherto male-dominated territory of German-language literature. We find her still young but already at the peak of her career when she meets the famous Zurich writer Max Frisch. Theirs is initially a passionate relationship, but professional and personal disagreements gradually take over. Ingeborg finds support in her friend, the composer Hans Werner Henze, and the young Viennese scholar Adolf Opel. With him she will make a journey into the wilderness that will help her find herself.
