KADDISH FOR A FRIEND

2011

Ali Messalam, aged 14 and grown up in a Palestinian refugee camp, began to hate Jews early. Emigrating from Lebanon, the boy and his family arrive in Berlin. Here Ali tries as hard as he can to integrate and his only wish is to be accepted by the other Arab boys, but this requires proving himself. So he decides to demonstrate his courage by entering the apartment of his neighbor, Russian Alexander Zamskoy, 84 and a Jewish World War II veteran. But the other boys follow Ali inside and trash the apartment. Coming home early, Alexander recognizes only Ali and reports him to the police. To avoid being arrested and deported, Ali will have to approach his enemy.
