Saoirse is a peculiar kid: she is 6 but she’s not yet able to speak and she feels strangely and very strongly attracted to the sea. She lives in a lighthouse with her father and older brother Ben, who’s often sulky and unpleasant with his sister as he blames her for the death of his beloved mom. The lighthouse is full of secrets and magical objects, and when Saoirse finds two of them, a seashell horn given to Ben by their mother to listen to the sound of the sea and an old cloak that belonged to their mom, she starts an amazing journey into the deep sea among seals and fantastic characters. So we find out that Saoirse is a "selkie", one of those magical creatures who live between land and sea. With their singing, they can wake up again the creatures that Macha, a witch, has deprived of their emotions and turned into stone. Saoirse is the chosen one and with her task a highly imaginative journey starts, in which Ben will put his life at stake to save his little sister.
