March 1944. While the world is overwhelmed by war a very different conflict is being fought in a remote part of France between two very odd armies: day after day the children of Longeverne and Velrans ceaselessly clash. The peculiarity of this war is that the prisoners taken are shorn of their clothing buttons, returning home vanquished and humiliated. It’s the War of the Buttons and the village collecting the most buttons wins. On the sidelines of the conflict Violette, a Jewish girl, stirs the heartstrings of Lebrac, captain of Longeverne. Will Violette’s origins be brought to light and reported?
