Qi Sitian is a Chinese conductor, well known in the United States. She goes back to China after twenty years for her first public performance. However, what interests her more is to find her sister and her two brothers she has not seen since then. They all used to live happily with their parents (her father was a teacher with some problems with the authority), until they died in an accident, leaving the four children alone. They chose different ways. Now Qi Sitian would like that those distinct branches found the unity of common roots. It is not going to be an easy commitment, because their personalities have been deeply marked by life. Yiku has become an alcoholic taxi-driver, but he is still in search of his family roots. Tian is a student at university and Miao is a jobless bewildered girl. The constant recollection of their childhood allows the reconstruction of those personalities that will probably find a way to meet again.
